We
make six standard models of archtop guitars including the
newest addition to the range, an affordable professional-level
instrument designed with jazz gigs in mind - The Jazz Bird features
high quality materials throughout and the same top level of workmanship Hancock archtops are known for at an
amazingly low price.
The
'James Sherlock Classic' is a traditional acoustic archtop
with everything a great jazz
guitar should have. It is a handmade, all solid-timber instrument
with a tone and volume equal to our higher model at a very affordable
price.
Our
three other acoustic models are named after prominent
Australian towns and cities, Bendigo, Hobart and Adelaide. The differences between these
models comes from the use of different timbers and varying
degrees of ornamentation.
Our
Jazz Electric model is a
fully electric 17 inch archtop guitar designed for playing
live jazz without the problem of feedback normally
associated with amplifying an archtop.
Each
model comes with standard specifications, but with a range
of options such as timber selection, inlays, scale length
and neck width. You have the opportunity to order
a custom instrument which is just right for you.
Customers can also buy a ready
made guitar for immediate shipment. The prices listed
below include a deluxe hardshell case and priority freight to
most countries. Australian customers should email
us for special prices in Australian Dollars.

The
Adelaide
The
combination of the finest aged European timbers and
elaborate binding and inlay work make the Adelaide the tot
of the line Hancock model. The top of the Adelaide model is
carved from an aged European cello soundboard blank while
the back and sides are of the finest flamed European
Maple.
With
aesthetics reminiscent of the famous D'Angelico
instruments from the 1950s-60s, the Adelaide is
distinguished from our lower models not only by its
superior quality materials, but also the elaborate
bindings and inlays which adorn the body and neck. It
features as standard intricate bindings of either white
celluloid or black ebony on the body, F - holes,
headstock, fingerboard and pickguard. Other features
include a 15-piece Art Deco emblem headstock inlay, Mother
of Pearl truss rod cover and Mother of Pearl inlays
embellishing the rear headstock veneer and bridge. Truly a
work of art, with a sound to match.

equal to that of the Hobart and Adelaide models.
This
model does away with elaborate ornamentation in favour of
a focus on sound and playability. The aesthetics are based
on James D'Aquisto's classic models with simple and
elegant appointments including flamed maple bindings, a
bound African Ebony fingerboard and an Ebony Headstock
veneer with 3-piece mother of pearl Art Nouveau

The
Jazz Electric
The
Jazz Electric is a model for those players who want an
archtop jazz guitar to play electrified without the
problem of feedback which often comes with playing an
acoustic instrument through an amplifier. The Jazz
Electric has the look and feel of an acoustic archtop jazz
guitar but has a rigid core running through the center of
the body which eliminates the vibrations in the top and
back plates, which are the source of feedback. The
electric sound is almost identical to that of an amplified
acoustic archtop and is delivered by two body-mounted Kent
Armstrong humbuckers.
The
aesthetics of this model are simple and elegant, being
based on D'Aquisto's classic models. Its beauty is based
to a great extent in the timbers used including solid
European timbers in the top, back and sides, Flamed
European Maple bindings and Macassar Ebony headstock
veneer and tailpiece.
