 In
June 2004 we were honoured to be announced as finalists in the
prestigious Queensland Design Awards for our entry, a concept
guitar designed by Sean Hancock and named "The
Concorde". This hybrid acoustic/electric archtop guitar is
different from anything else on the market worldwide. The
instrument combines traditional ideals with fresh ideas and
ergonomic improvements like a weight reduction of around 40% to
help reduce back and shoulder strain, a common complaint among
guitarists. The guitar is also environmentally sound with a
majority of the materials used being from sustainable sources.
As part of the exposure of being a finalist in the awards, we were
asked to display the instrument as part of the "Design
Excellence in Queensland" exhibition in the Queensland Art
Gallery running June 04 -14, 2004 during Queensland Week
Celebrations. Click here to

ABOUT THE GUITAR
The Concorde is an acoustic-electric archtop guitar for both professional musicians and amateur guitarists. The concept behind this design was to incorporate design elements of a traditional acoustic jazz guitar with those of a solid body electric guitar to produce an instrument with the best characteristics of both. Other important issues such as ergonomics, environmental concerns and commercial viability were taken into account during the design process.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION
The Queensland Design Awards are part of the Design Institute of
Australia's commitment to raising awareness of design in
Queensland and aims to celebrate design excellence by identifying
and promoting the value of good design and employing professional
designers.
This was the third year that the DIA have held this prestigious
awards program, and interest and entries continue to grow every
year, with a large number of entries received from some of
Queensland’s top design practices across the 16 categories.
